After reading dozens of articles extolling UNH’s Ricky Santos I decided to look at the statistics.
Now I’m starting to wonder why UMass’ Liam Coen isn’t mentioned in the same breath.
- Santos: 841 yards, 7 TD, 2 INT
- Coen: 814 yards, 9 TD, 4 INT
It appears that Santos has a slight advantage — very slight. Now, add to that the fact that UNH doesn’t have anyone else. Santos is the whole show. The team lives and dies by his arm, and yet his statistics are almost even-keel with Coen who has Matt Lawrence as an option.
Oh yea, Lawrence is second in the CAA in rushing yards (517).
OK, before someone beats me with the Great Book of Obvious, Santos has played in three games while Coen has four under his belt. However, let’s not forget the disparity in total plays:
- Santos: 131
- Coen: 107
At the end of the day, I still have to give Santos the edge because of his ability to run and the portion of UNH’s offense he is responsible for. I just think that Coen should be in the same category — the difference isn’t really that big.
Now it’s time for Boston College.

Speaking of UMass football, the Collegian had a good column that basically gives a rundown on the season.
I was thinking about writing something similar to this, but Jeremy Rice did a good job.

The UMass lacrosse team had its 2007 team banquet and handed out some awards.
Here’s the article.

NOTE: As you may have noticed, I have not been adding photos to my recent posts. That’s not because I’m lazy, it’s because MVN writers are not allowed to add any photos that are not their own. I totally understand this policy and will abide by it. I just wanted to make sure anyone that takes the time to read this knows the deal. Thanks as always.
