The Springfield Republican is reporting that Liam Coen will likely play this weekend against the Black Bears of Maine. Coen hurt his knee last week in UMass’ 36-13 win over Towson.
From Coach Brown:
‘”He’s day to day, but we feel good about his progress,” Brown said. “I think he’ll be fine by Saturday. I see no reason we can’t move forward.”
Speaking of the Towson game, the UMass Football Blog has some good photos from the game.

USA Today had an article on Ricky Santos, the highly touted quarterback from the University of New Hampshire.
There’s an interesting list of potential Walter Payton winners in the sidebar on the left, but no UMass (Coen) player made the list.
Then again, the header for the article says Atlantic 10 — so validity may be questionable.
Here’s the article.
Here’s another quote from Brown:
“Ricky has always had a great understanding of the UNH system and has always been good at spreading the wealth,” Brown says. “He still has plenty of targets … The thing people overlook is his ability to run the ball out of their spread offense. I think you will see more of that this season.”

Also on the official UMass site — Kerry Taylor, a former UMass All-American tight end, is making an appearance on the silver screen. More specifically … “The Game Plan,” a Disney football movie.
Here’s the release.
