What could have been

While searching the Internet this morning, I got a quick glimpse of what could have been through a University of Maine football article.

I know — it’s weird how that works sometimes.

Desmond Conner, a reporter with the Hartford Courant, spoke with Jack Cosgrove, Maine’s head coach, in regards to the Black Bears’ upcoming game against UConn. Cosgrove certainly gave the Huskies some bulletin board fodder with his thinly veiled knock at their move from I-AA to I-A:

“I don’t think I felt any animosity, but what surprised me most is I didn’t know how many times they had been to the I-AA playoffs because usually, at the time, the teams that were [jumping to I-A] were teams that were winning national championships”.

However, the best quote is a little further down. He briefly mentions who he thought would be the next to make the shift:

“… it just seemed to me if there was going to be another I-A football program in New England, it was either going to be them or UMass and they beat UMass to the punch.”

Check out the rest of the article here.

There was a basketball article I wanted to put before this, but since the Boston Globe actually had a piece on the UMass football team, I figured it was a cause for celebration.

Woo.

Anyway, Barbara Matson does a good job with this Colgate preview, and I’ll let her tell the story.

Great quote from Liam by the way:

“…the game has totally changed for me. The game has slowed down. Now all the preparation going into the game is fun. I know what’s going to happen before it happens.”

SLAM Magazine has some good stuff from the New England Top 75 Camp.

UMass recruit Nate Lubick and currently committed David Gibbs are both mentioned. So is Chris Prescott, but he committed to St. Joe’s, so I don’t care as much anymore.

Yes, the grapes out here are very sour.

Here’s the article.

Lastly, I found a UMass message board that I’ve never seen before — Herman’s Bulletin Board.

Looks like it belongs to the band, but I though it was interesting (and very well hidden on the Internet). As usual, if you want to check out a message board that covers UMass from top to bottom go to UMassHoops — Mike does a great job and (some of) the posters are very knowledgeable.

All of them are as crazy about UMass as I am.
