The Daily Collegian has a couple of good articles on the field hockey team – and it honestly takes a lot for me to sit and read two field hockey articles.
No offense to field hockey players … I’m just being honest
Scott Feldman writes a solid piece on the Maroon and White’s fast start. Justin McGrail has an update on the team’s goalie competition.
Good to see they have two guys on field hockey – it means the Collegian has a strong sports section. As usual.

While I was lost on the Internet this evening, I stumbled upon an absolutley amazing piece by Chad Dundas in the Missoulian. His analysis of the name change from I-AA to Championship Subdivision was really entertaining.

UMass alum and current Boston College basketball coach Al Skinner agreed to a contract extension with the Eagles yesterday. Skinner will be in Chestnut Hill until at least the 2012-13 season.
As much as I hate a UMass grad doing anything positive for Boston College sports, Skinner has been a great coach for the Eagles. I can’t wait to beat them in football and hoops this year.
Here’s to wishful thinking, and here’s the article.

More articles are kicking around about Appalachian State’s victory in the Big House.
This one turns the win into a loss for Championship Subdivision teams by stating how other I-A teams might be wary to schedule a solid I-AA squad. There really isn’t too much to back up the headline’s claim here, except for a couple of quotes that are mysteriously buried at the bottom:
From Dave Clawson UR’s coach:
“Appy probably lost a couple million dollars in the process because people aren’t going to want to schedule them any more.”
That’s essentially the gist of the argument. Kind of weak, but I get it.

Apparently Doug Clark, a UMass alum and a former football player for the Minutemen, is playing a little International League baseball in Richmond.
The story is pretty good so I’ll let it speak for itself.
Looks like Clark is one of the “good guys” in minor league sports.

UMass baseball announced its fall schedule and its fall clinic.
Check out the official release here.
